A shy, quiet girl from Shinsei Ward of Kamihama

[Spoiler] Rena Minami uses Ren's appearance as a disguise to hide from Kaede after activating the Staircase Rumor. [/Spoiler]

[Spoiler] Ren Isuzu suffered from social awkwardness and unsure speech which led to a childhood of relentless bullying, low self esteem, and ultimately severe depression. This culminated in a suicide attempt off the top of a skyscraper. After she jumped, she suddenly realized that she didn't want to die, and was halted by Kyubey, who made her a magical girl in exchange for saving her life.

Kyubey led her to believe that the horrible things that happened in her life could be resolved by beating all the witches, betting that she would despair at the difficulty of the task. The ultimate realization that humans could be horrible to each other, even without witches, drove Ren to a second suicide attempt, but she was stopped this time by another magical girl, Rika Ayano. The two girls formed a deep friendship, and while Ren is still shy and awkward, she had a brighter outlook on life. [/Spoiler]
