Reid Astrea was the first Sword Saint and a key figure in the sealing of the Witch of Envy 400 years ago. The eyepatch is purely decorative. Both of Reid's eyes are in perfect condition.
[Spoiler] Reid oversees the second examination of the Pleiades Watchtower in Arc 6, acting as a major barrier for the main cast to progress. [/Spoiler]
[Spoiler] During Gluttony's attack on the Pleiades Watchtower, Reid is challenged by Roy Alphard, who consumes Reid's memories. Reid's conscience wins out over Roy's, and he takes over the archbishop's body, giving him the ability to freely roam the tower. [/Spoiler]
[Spoiler] Reid is ultimately defeated by Julius, allowing the characters to progress to the first floor of the watchtower. [/Spoiler]
