Mai is Shouko's daughter, and accompanies her mother to help out the Cat Clowder with restoring vacant homes. Although initially timid, Utsumi helps her come out of her shell.
[Spoiler] After Utsumi confronts Shouko about her insistence on going along with her plans, Shouko stops visiting the Lounge, but Mai continues to hang out there and do homework until it's time for her mother to pick her up. [/Spoiler]
