Kuromaro is a fallen god said to bring eternal darkness wherever they were called to, living in isolation from other gods and beings. They have two forms, appearing to Nanami as a male and to Ookuninushi as a female.
On her second trip into the past, Nanami manages to get another deity to call Kuromaro, yet it's only during the third trip that she gets to meet them and hear about their connection to Tomoe.
[Spoiler] After talking with Nanami and showing her the events that lead up to and succeeded the forming of the contract between Kuromaro and Tomoe, Kuromaro seemingly dissolves. However, it is later shown that Kuromaro is still bound to the human world through their feelings of loneliness, which Yatori takes advantage of to manipulate Kuromaro into helping him become more powerful. After talking with Ookuninushi and Nanami, Kuromaro disappears for good, relieved that their presence was needed after all. [/Spoiler]
